Turning emotions, feelings and mental states from the concrete into the abstract form is certainly not simple. Especially in genres like Depressive Black Metal, the expression of something strong is crucial: without it, it would emerge something completely futile, sterile and bland. The Italian band "About Abortions" manages to do the opposite of all this, concentrating fully what it feels in its music, making it full of pain, disturbing and sick. The Italian band "About Abortions" manages to do the opposite of all this, concentrating fully what he feels in his music, making it full of pain, disturbing and sick. "Substance of My Psychosis" is all that remains of the minds and souls of Solitudo Cyfer and Thirteen Forever, squeezed to the core of their essence. The album oozes desperation, anguish, sorrow, desolation, emptiness, sickness and agony from the beginning to the end. In the field of style, compared to the previous demo, you can see a great improvement in both the composition and in the drafting of lyrics: the base is better structured and executed, further optimized thanks to the excellent recording. The lyrics are more mature and less basic, although it has not yet reached a standard of high level. It must be said that the whole album sounds good. It must be admitted, however, that the departure is not the best: "Amputation of Torment" all in all it's a good song, but in my opinion the first part is not very apt, same for its chorus and the instrumental base (in the style of the first demo ). In return, the moans and screams in the rest of the song can compensate for this lack by making exude pain and torment from every pore. After the first track, the album improves gradually, leaving a little aside handled rhythms and uncontrolled crisis, to make space for calm, very painful and poignant emotions: "No more Cerebral Activity" is a kind of psychic stand-by full of thoughts and anxiety, a calm but psychotic kind of state of mind , in the wake of a pre-psychotic explosion. Then we have "Nothing in Nothigness", the best song of the album: an absolutely perfect song, with poignant, sad and melancholic characters. Beware of the reaction of your mind: the song is not soft, and I was immediately entered into my heart. The album returns slightly on the previous sound with "Dissolve in the Wind", a song that seems to combine the two styles of the band: the more "industrial", mechanical and disturbing, with the wistful, sad and touching one. Same thing for "Last Breath of Sorrow" and "Into the White Death Sleep", but succeeding in this mixture more than well: these are songs with insightful, poignant emotions, interpretations and painful moans in despair: certainly two of the most successful songs of the band. "Substance of my Psychosis" is a good album despite a few shortcomings. The band needs to work better on personality, but even so the standard level of songs is good. One note: listening to the record, you can easily notice that one of the voices has a strange tone: Thirteen Forever unfortunately suffers from a rare syndrome that makes his voice high-pitched, but it must be said that this does not ruin anything. In fact, this makes the album more special and interesting. This is a project certainly with pros and cons, but keep an eye on it.
